The Greek Australian Cultural League of Melbourne is hosting its 4th annual art exhibition, ‘Antipodean Palette 2014.’ The exhibition aims to support visual arts in the community by showcasing the works of 12 practicing artists in a variety of media.
Artists participating this year are Angy Labiris, Anne Sampsonidis-Warren, Christos Avramoudas, Costa Athanassiou, Effie Mandalos, James Raftopoulos, Mary Raphael, Sophie Kagadis, Soula Mantalvanos, Thalia Andrews, Tina Sideris and Tony Pierrakos.
The exhibition will be held at Steps Gallery, 62 Lygon St Carlton from May 22 until June 1, 10 to 4 pm daily. An opening celebration will commence at 6.30pm, Thursday 22nd May with guest speaker Professor Nick Papastergiades from the University of Melbourne School of Cultural Studies. The duo ‘Polyxeni’ will entertain guests with Greek acoustic music.
The 10 day event will include the following book launches, bi-lingual poetry readings and demonstrations.
– 24 May, at 4.00pm we will present the work of well known Greek poet, Spiros Karamountzos. The book titled “Poet’s Garden” includes some of his poems translated into English and will be presented by Dimitris Troaditis. Kostas Paivanas will showcase the poet’s body of work.
– 25 May, at 4.30pm we are presenting our annual celebration of poetry with work by Australian poets, all of whom will be honing in on the cosmic theme of “metamorphosis.” Join them for what will surely be a most memorable afternoon.
– 24 and 31 May, Soula Mantalvanos, an exhibiting artist will speak about her copperplate printing process.
