GACL KIDS is an art and culture program for children aged 7-11, presented by the Greek Australian Cultural League (GACL). The program invites children of all nationalities to participate and explore the wonders of Greek history, art and culture in fun and creative ways. Activities are designed and facilitated by an experienced art teacher and all materials are included. GACL KIDS will commence in the June school holiday period and will consist of 3 x 2 hour sessions. Each session will cover a different theme with activities exploring varied art mediums and techniques. Parents can drop off their children and visit the Gasworks Café onsite, explore the surrounds and exhibits of the Gasworks Arts Park or visit the nearby South Melbourne Market.
Feather & Chain Painting – Icarus and his Wings
The moral in the story of Icarus is that we must respect and listen to our elders. Explore the story of Icarus and what happened to his wings while creating some amazing wings of your own!
Suitable for ages 7-11

Paint without a Brush – Flowers in Greek Mythology
The Greek flower myths are a favourite amongst many. We will use objects readily available at home to create amazing flower effects whilst listening to the story of Clytie the sad sunflower, Iris the rainbow goddess, Asterea the goddess of the starry sky and other nymphs and maidens of ancient Greek mythology.

Story Telling through Art – Loss and Resilience
Art is a powerful way to guide children through the expression and reflection of emotions, social and self-awareness. In this special activity, commemorating the 100 year anniversary of the Asia Minor Catastrophe, we will use art and music to visually communicate emotions of loss and displacement, hope and resilience.
Suitable for ages 9-11
