Dear members and friends of the GACLΜ, During 2015 many of you attended some of the most successful events of our League. With this first Newsletter of 2016 we take the opportunity to inform you in advance about our upcoming events so that you may organise your programme.
We also like to remind you about the renewal of your subscription (if you have not done so already). You will find the information about subscription renewal at the end of this Newsletter. Antipodean Palette 2016
The exhibition Antipodean Palette 2015 at the Steps Gallery on 13/08-23/08/2015 was very successful. We thank the curator Vasy Petros for her excellent work over the last three years. Vasy, due to other commitments, will not be able to curate the Antipodean Palette this year. Frixos Ioannidis –who was the initial instigator of this event and the curator for the first two years- will be the curator for 2016. The exhibition –in its sixth consecutive year-will be held again at the Steps Gallery, 62 Lygon Street Carlton on August 16 till August 23. The gallery will be open Monday to Friday 10.00 am-4.00pm and during the weekend 11.00am -3.00 pm
Antipodean Palette is an annual highlight in the Greek-Australian Cultural League calendar and an established forum to showcase and discuss works influenced by our two cultures. We invite artists, at any stage of their careers, to participate by submitting their entries any time between now and the end of April. Dimitris Tsaloumas
It is with great sadness that we were informed of the death of the distinguished poet Dimitris Tsaloumas (1921-2016), supporter and friend of the Greek-Australian Cultural League at his beloved Leros island in the Dodecanese.
We express our condolences to his family. This year our League will organise a literary tribute to his life and work. We will inform you soon about the place, date and time.
Book Launches
• Saturday 12 March 2016, 5.00 pm the Greek-Australian Cultural League of Melbourne in association with the Ithacian Philanthropic Society, at the Greek Centre of the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne, 168 Lonsdale St., Melbourne. Launch of the book In his Image by George Paxinos.
• Sunday 20 March 2016, 3.30 pm, the Greek-Australian Cultural League of Melbourne in association with the Hellenic Writers Association of Australia and as part of the campaign “Speak Greek in March” launch of the book by Dionysia Moussoura Two garlands and a ring at the Panarcadian Association, 570 Victoria Street, North Melbourne (2nd floor).
• Sunday 17 April 2016, the GACL and HWAA: Collection of poems by Gerasimos Klonis at the Cephalonian Society, 16-20 Stawell Street, West Melbourne. Further details very soon.
Periodical «Antipodes» Issue No. 62, 2016
The 62st Issue of the literary periodical Antipodes will be launched ον 16 October. The issue will be dedicated to the life and work of Dimitris Tsaloumas an eminent poet of the Greek Diaspora.
As usual, this issue will publish works submitted by our members such as poems, short stories, studies, essays, book reviews and οther literary works, in Greek and English and the Visual Arts.
Works to be submitted for publication must be original works that have not been published or promoted in another publication. Literary works should be no longer than the limits prescribed as follows: Poems: 100 verses (lines), short stories and essays; 2000 words, meditations: 800 words, studies: 2000 words, book reviews and other reviews (exhibitions, music, plays, films): 1000 words.
The deadline for submitting contributions is the 24th June, 2016. Works that exceed the specified size limits will be rejected, without involving the Editorial Committee.
Works Submitted must be sent electronically in Word document format, (attachment) to gacl.editor@gmail.com

We request members who have not as yet renewed their annual subscription to take care of this irregularity so that they may be able to receive our periodical free of charge.
Please note that our League has no other financial resources to meet its operating expenses and cover the expenses for the publication of the periodical ANTIPODES.
The very sustainability of the League is very much incumbent upon the support of its members.
