A number of you have already attended many of the successful functions organized by our League since the start of the year 2013. With our third Newsletter we wish to inform you of future functions to give you the opportunity to organize your program.
This year we are celebrating the 40 years continuous circulation of the bi-lingual periodical“Antipodes” (1974-1913). Over the years its pages emit the historical, social, literary and cultural development of Hellenism in the Australian Diaspora. Τhe periodical is a historical and literary document that demonstrates the struggle of its creators for the advancement and of the our cultural heritage and the promotion of the ideals of our race.

UPCOMING EVENTS
On Sunday 8th September, at 3.00 pm, the GACL, the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria and the Hellenic Writers Association of Australia, will launch Kostas Kalymnios three new poetry collections Anisixasmos, Plektaniand Kelifospastis at the Panarcadian Association of Victoria “O Kolokotronis” hall, 2ndfloor, 570 Victoria St., North Melbourne. Dr Vrasidas Karalis of Sydney University will be launching the books and M.C. will be Dimitris Tsahouridis.
On Sunday 15th September, at 3.00 pm, at the hall of the Panarcadian Association of Victoria “O Kolokotronis”, 2nd floor, 570 Victoria St., North Melbourne, the GACL, the Panarcadian Association of Victoria “O Kolokotronis” and the Hellenic Writers Association of Australia will launch Yota Krili’s book «Καταβολές». This is a historical fiction book set in the Greek Revolution of 1821 and the subsequent civil war. The book will be presented by the academics Mrs Eleni Nickas and Dr Christos Fifis.
On Sunday 29th September, at 3.30pm, there will be a talk by Mr John Georgiou on The theatrical plays of Nikos Kazantzakis at the Pontian Community of Melbourne and Victoria, 345 Victoria St, Brunswick. Everyone welcome.
The launch of ‘Antipodes’ Vol. 59, 2013, together with the announcement of the results of the literary competition will take place on the 6th of October, 3.00 p.m. This year the periodical will pay tribute to academic Dr Maria Herodotou. This year we are celebrating the 40 year continuous circulation of this prestigious bi-lingual periodical. The periodical will be launched by Dr Christos Fifis.This event will be held at thePanarcadian Association “O Kolokotronis” building, 570 Victoria St., North Melbourne. All welcome.
On Sunday 20th October, 2013, 3.00 pm, the GACLM and the Hellenic Writers Association of Australia will launch Litsa Nikolopoulou-Gogas latest book with title «Μερικές Αλήθειες» ( Some truths). The book will be launched by Mrs Dimitra Ainizlis. Further information will be provided soon.
On Sunday 10th November 2013, 3.00 pm, in the functions room of theIthacan Philanthropic Society, 2nd floor, 329 Elizabeth St., Melbourne, will take place the launch of the book “Stathis Raftopoulos MBE – Poet. A contemporary Ulysses in the Antipodes”, by the Greek Scholar Kyriakos Amanatides. The book will be launched by Mr George Pagalis. The book launch is organised by the Ithacan Philanthropic Society, in co-operation with AHEPA, theEptanesian Co-Operative Society Ltd, the Greek-Australian Cultural League of Melbourne and the Hellenic Writers Association of Australia. All are welcome.
The Annual General Meeting of our League will take place on 1st December, 2013,3.00 pm, at 570 Victoria St., North Melbourne, 2nd floor, (lift available). For the viability and continuation of our organisation, new, committed and dedicated committee members are urged to consider applying to serve in the Admnistrative Committee.
